Top 10 Movies: 2000

Top 10: 2000

My top 10 movies: 2000

Honorable Mentions:

Almost Famous, Crimson Rivers, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Chocolat (Best Pic nominee)

10. Me, Myself, & Irene

Rude, gross, and (most importantly) funny. Typical Farrelly brothers comedy.

9. Pitch Black

Well-made sci-fi survival film with a generic plot (Alien (1979) ripoff). Spacecraft crashes on alien planet, survivors must battle creatures while finding a way to escape.

8. Snatch.

Guy Ritchie’s follow-up to Lock Stock(1998), featuring all-star cast. Clever, fast-paced, and entertaining.

7. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Incorporating wire-fu and an epic story, it achieved worldwide acclaim and garnered many awards (Best Pic nominee).

6. Gladiator

Best picture winning epic directed by Ridley Scott. Also earned Russell Crowe an oscar for best actor. (both kinda overrated)

5. Shadow of the Vampire

Fictional telling of the legend behind the filming of Nosferatu (1922). Good tale about a director’s obsession with creating a perfect vampire film.

4. Best in Show

Christopher Guest’s best film (besides Spinal Tap). A perfect blend of quirky (insane) characters competing in an asinine dog show.

3. American Psycho

Craftily made film about an investment banker turned serial killer with a great twist ending.

2. Requiem for a Dream

Powerful film about 4 people whose lives are destroyed by addiction. Difficult to watch their downward spiral from happiness to unimaginable depravity. Not an easy film to get though or forget. Also features a (surprisingly) good dramatic performance from Marlon Wayans.

1. Memento

Possibly my favorite movie of all-time. Memento has an intricate narrative, stellar acting, and an ambiguous ending.
